Glasgow's finest metal band attack Exeter
Sanctorum
Aaron Sly – Vocals/Guitar
Ash Lewis – Guitar
Chris Eldridge – Bass/Vocals
Matt Alston – Drums
Sanctorum
Support bands aren’t supposed to be this damn good. Sanctorum deliver deep and dark death metal growls that are backed by soaring solos and constant pounding double bass that was accomplished to a style far beyond their years. Blowing the cobwebs away with Exeter’s first metal gig of the new year Sanctorum certainly made everyone forget just how cold it was outside.
Even though they only had a short set Sanctorum proved they have what it takes to kick your ass and they have only just got started.
Idiom
Matt Sharland – Vocals
Little Kris – Guitar
G Bird 5000 - Bass
Dan Harrison – Drums
Idiom
With Rapeseed no longer on the bill Idiom were playing earlier than planned and surprisingly to me it seemed a large chunk of the crowd turned up for Idiom alone. Their mix of funk and metal was at times a bit odd yet the Cavern seemed to be lapping it up and asking for more. In the blink of an eye Idiom can change from a laid back sound cruising along with the likes of Incubus then blasts into RATM - esque with a metal edge. Idiom are a mixture of everything it seems and appealed to basically everyone in the Cavern tonight who cheered and danced until the very end of their set.

Mendeed
Playing in Exeter again this time the much smaller venue of the Cavern Mendeed looked somewhat cramped on this small stage. As the band kicked into their first track ‘Beneath A Burning Sky’ Dave Proctor stood on the metal bar to pear above the crowd to see where everyone was. When those still in the bar drinking and chatting realised that Mendeed had indeed already taken to the stage they soon down their pints and ran towards the stage.
Their blistering brand of metal was not done full justice tonight on this tiny stage yet at the same time it might be your last chance to see them on such a small stage as tracks like ‘Stand As One And For Glory’ taken off their upcoming album ‘This War Will Last Forever’ is sure to propel them towards their dreams. By the end Exeter is left tired and sweaty as Mendeed show Exeter what their made of.
Exeter Cavern Exeters home for live underground music. In the 11 years it has been open the likes of Coldplay, Muse Sick of it All, Hundred Reasons and Afrika Bambaataa have graced the stage.
Open 7 days a week.
